Nineteen Chapecoense players and staff were among 71 people killed in a plane crash as the team travelled to Colombia for the Copa Sudamericana's first leg.

Olympique Lyon 0-0 Sevilla FC

Jorge Sampaoli’s men stood firm on a chilly night in France to secure their place in the last 16 as they finished second behind Juventus in Group H. It was Sevilla who came closest to breaking the deadlock when Vitolo curled a shot against the post in a one-on-one after 18 minutes. But Lyon were in the driving seat. Corentin Tolisson headed against crossbar soon after, and Mathieu Valbeuna curled a shot against the bar before halftime. Sampaoli’s side headed down the tunnel having conceded 12 shots on target, the highest in any game they have played so far this season. While it was a similar story in the second half, Sevilla remained disciplined and secured their place in the next round along with Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Nigeria's women's team are continuing to refuse to leave a hotel in Abuja until they are paid allowances and bonuses for winning the Women's Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Falcons, who clinched their eighth African title on Saturday with a 1-0 win over hosts Cameroon, are protesting over the Nigeria Football Federation's failure to pay them US$17,150 per player for their success.

It is alleged the NFF had also pledged to pay outstanding allowances for qualifying and their win bonuses [US$6,500] before the start of the competition.

Whilst his injury is likely to keep him on the sidelines for the first month of the new season, Cristiano Ronaldo has been able to look back on the year just passed labelling it the best of his career.
The Portuguese captain may have struggled with knee issues throughout but he still managed to register 35 league goals in addition to 16 in the Champions League, one shy of his own record.

Tottenham ensured they qualified for the Europa League with a comfortable 3-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League at Wembley.

The result, which should have been even more one-sided considering the chances created, means Spurs finish third in Group E, with CSKA bottom.

Spurs fell behind against the run of play to Alan Dzagoev's 33rd-minute strike but fought back to secure their first win at Wembley at the third time of asking this season.
